HUNDREDS of people including Eastbourne’s new mayor tried a range of sports last weekend.

Mayor of Eastbourne Mike Thompson was in an energetic mood and got involved in the Sports Festival organised by Eastbourne Borough Council.

Hundreds of local people descended on Hampden Park, Cavendish School, Shinewater Sports Centre, Eastbourne Sports Park and Eastbourne Rowing Club, to have a go at a multitude of sports.

Each activity cost £1 and all the proceeds went to the NSPCC team in Eastbourne.

Jimmy Chater, sports and community facilities manager, said, “The whole weekend was designed to get local people more involved in sport. We had a terrific response and raised more than £1,300 for the NSPCC.

“Taster sessions were organised in everything from fencing and kick boxing to baton twirling and archery. The mayor had a go at all of them.”

Anyone interested in taking up a new sport should call Jimmy Chater on 509859.
