Man guilty of criminal damage ordered to pay compensation

AN EASTBOURNE man who caused hundreds of pounds worth of damage to a car has been ordered to pay compensation.

Eastbourne magistrates heard that Donald Drummond and his victim had ‘bad blood’ between them.

The court was told during the incident the 31-year-old shouted verbal abuse at his victim who was walking into a block of flats.

Drummond was then seen kicking the door of a car repeatedly and running away.

The car owner was told the insurance company would pay just over £810 leaving him with an excess of £100.

Drummond, of Pembury Road, pleaded guilty to criminal damage.

Dan Harrison, defending, said, “The background is the pair have bad blood between them. He [Drummond] accepted he had a few drinks that day. He accepts he said, ‘he’s a beast, get him out’.

“Mr Drummond heard the other man call him something, lost his temper and accepted causing damage.

“He gets benefits and has depression and Post Traumatic Stress – he was hit by a bus.

“The last job he had was as a hod carrier.

“He had a drink while taking medication he receives for his injury, they don’t go together. It’s partly the cause for this offence but he says it’s no excuse. It was unplanned and unsophisticated.”

Drummond was fined £110 and ordered to pay £45 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

He must also pay £100 compensation.
