Man charged with cannibis production

A LOCAL man has been charged with cannabis production after around 500 cannabis plants were found in an Eastbourne property.

Police discovered the stash on Wednesday January 23 , 2013, when they attended at address off St Annes Road.

The man, Van Thai, 51, of Avenue Lane, Eastbourne, has been charged with two counts of producting cannabis. He appeared at Eastbourne Magistrates’ Court on January 24 and has been remanded in custody to appear at crown court on a date to be fixed.

Sergeant Julian Williams, of Eastbourne Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “This was a significant find by officers which has prevented a large amount of cannabis reaching the streets.

“I would urge anyone who has information about the production or supply of drugs to contact Sussex Police or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 to help us continue to target drugs in our community.”
