Man charged with burglary and car theft after police stop in Eastbourne

POLICE have charged a man with burglary and car theft after he was stopped by a patrol in Polegate.

Christopher Chan, 31, unemployed, of no fixed abode, appeared in court this week after being arrested on the A27 at Polegate He was charged with driving whilst disqualified, theft of a car and dangerous driving plus failing to provide a specimen for analysis - all of which occured in Eastbourne on August 16. He was also charged with burglary of the Wooden Floor Centre, Portslade, and theft of a Vauxhall Corsa from Hove, both of which occured on July 15.

On Wednesday, when he appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court, Chan was further charged with bilking, aggravated vehicle taking, driving while disqualified, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, failing to report an accident, driving without insurance and burglary other than dwelling.

He was remanded in custody to return for commital on October 1
