Man admits that he broke into his former girlfriend's home

A MAN who smashed his way into his ex-girlfriend's house and kicked her bedroom door down as his 18-month-old daughter was sleeping in the next room admitted 'I was drunk and I was a prat'.

He also said he had been a 'Jack-the-lad' when he was younger.

Gregory Chaytor-Grubb, 29, had been on a stag night and had drunk eight pints of lager and seven shots of vodka and tequila when he used a plant pot to smash his way into his ex-girlfriend's house.

The court heard how the Langney man had phoned his girlfriend three times at 2.40am, after their relationship had broken down in July.

She ignored his calls but heard his voice and saw that he was standing outside demanding to be let in.

When she refused, Chaytor-Grubb went to the side of the property and threatened to kick the back door in.

The woman shut herself in her bedroom and felt scared as she heard the sound of her ex running up the stairs. He broke in, damaging the bedroom door.

Defending himself, Chaytor-Grubb said, "I was drunk and I was out of control. I accept everything that will come my way."

Pleading guilty to criminal damage he said, "I don't think it was the alcohol; my actions are my own actions."

He indicated he wanted to change saying, "I don't want my child looking at me as I looked at my father."

His daughter remained asleep throughout the disturbance.

Chaytor-Grubb, of Sidcup Close, told the court he had been due to start a new job in removals the day that he appeared in court but expected to start the following day.

Sentencing Chaytor-Grubb to a 24-month supervision order, ordering him to attend a domestic abuse programme, carry out 60 hours community service, pay 35 compensation and 85 costs, the magistrate said, "You're a big guy. If you came charging through my door at 2.40am, you would frighten me."
