Activating Eastbourne’s funding from the Big Lottery Fund has now come to an end.
With the funding, the partnership launched a website listing all the support in one easy place to help job seekers find employment and to help employers with their labour market needs. The website link is www.activatingeastbourne.org
Additional features include a news area and a job seekers event calendar. There were only 18 days excluding weekends between May and December where there was not an event on for job seekers in Eastbourne.
The website also enabled providers of support to job seekers and employers to have a greater awareness of other services available for mutual clients and to aid with cross referrals. Furthermore, providers have the power to always keep the website up-to-date and current.
Activating Eastbourne embraced social media and launched a Facebook account and a Twitter account for local businesses and another for job seekers for followers to keep up-to-date with the relevant latest news and opportunities.
Support to maintain the social media accounts is provided by a volunteer. There were originally two but one left after finding work after a period of unemployment.
Funding also enabled the promotion of the website in the Friday-Ad and Business Matters as well the production of posters and leaflets.
Furthermore, with the funding Activating Eastbourne piloted an Employer Engagement Brokerage service.
The broker engaged with 95 businesses face to face helping them navigate and understand the website.
The broker was also unemployed before the contract and significantly increased their confidence and workplace and employability skills and as a result secured employment after the contract.
The Chair of Activating Eastbourne, Councillor Margaret Bannister, said, “The website hits have been very encouraging implying that local people and businesses are using the website to access the full array of support available to them.”
