Local businesses to get new rates bills within days

LOCAL business owners will receive their 2010/2011 business rates bill in the next few days.

Eastbourne Borough Council sends the bills out and collects the rates on behalf of Central Government. Rateable values are reassessed every five years and the Government then decides what the new bills will be.

Leader of Eastbourne Borough Council Councillor David Tutt said, "We have been talking to the local business community about the new bills and what options there are if people have concerns.

"While this is a Central Government tax, business owners can contact the council if they have questions about their bill or visit the Valuation Office Agency (VOA) web site with queries about the new valuation."

The VOA website is at www.voa.gov.uk/businessrates/ and the local valuation office can be contacted on 0845 602 2010.
