Lifeboat team find missing male walker safe and well

The first callout of 2013 for Eastbourne lifeboats

The first callout of 2013 for Eastbourne lifeboats

Eastbourne inshore lifeboat’s (ILB) first call out of the year took place yesterday (Thursday) after a group of walkers became concerned about one of their team.

They contacted Dover Coastguard at 11am when one of their party lagged behind and disappeared from view.

The group had walked to Beachy Head lighthouse and were returning to the steps at Cow Gap when they realised one of their colleagues had disappeared.

Aware that the tide was flooding, and fearful that he had stumbled amongst the rocks and become trapped, they contacted Dover Coastguard for assistance.

Eastbourne’s inshore lifeboat was launched and the volunteer crew assembled and were underway within 10 minutes of the request.

The ILB crew found the walker safe and well at Falling Sands, a long way behind his colleagues, and stood by until the group were reunited at Cow Gap.
