Lifeboat crews searched the Seven Sisters cliffs on Sunday afternoon (January 6). Volunteers from Newhaven RNLI launched just after 4pm, as daylight was fading, after reports of three people were in trouble.

Coastguards were concerned the trio could be in an area completely submerged by the incoming tide and breaking surf.

Two lifeboats and local coastguard teams conducted comprehensive searches from Cuckmere Haven through to Birling Gap before it was confirmed as a false alarm.
