Last minute repairs will not delay new lifeboat’s arrival tomorrow

The new lifeboat is all ship shape and due to arrive in Eastbourne tomorrow (Tuesday, May 29), despite having to undergo a minor repair earlier today.

It was thought the new £2.4 million lifeboat called Diamond Jubilee, which will arrive in Eastbourne’s harbour tomorrow (May 29), may be slightly delayed due to a minor electronic fault.

However, the RNLI crew at Eastbourne have received confirmation that it is now ready to arrive in the town before going off to the Thames Pageant for the jubilee celebrations at the weekend.

The repairs were done at the RNLI headquarters in Poole.

Bob Jeffery from Eastbourne Lifeboat said, “Because of the forthcoming pageant, they are making 110 per cent sure that everything is working perfectly, and as a precaution they are looking at all the systems.”

The Diamond Jubilee is due to arrive in Eastbourne Harbour at 3pm tomorrow. It is hoped locals and flag waving school children will attend to celebrate the occasion.
