The owners of the beleaguered Langney Shopping Centre have done a leaflet drop in the neighbouring community to keep residents abreast of what is happening.

They say individual businesses are now being inspected with a view to setting a date on when the centre will finally be able to re-open. While Barclays Bank and Boots Pharmacy have all opened temporary offerings in the car park and the popular market has been resurrected, it is still unclear when the centre will re-open its doors for business.

In the leaflet David Brown, director of London & Associated Management Services which owns the centre, said, “We appreciate that the local community are anxious to hear when the Langney Shopping Centre will reopen.

“The site remains subject to a precautionary Dangerous Structures Notice issued by the local authority’s Building Control Officer which prevents access to the centre until further notice.”

Mr Brown said the company had been doing all it could to get the centre back open since the roof collapsed on December 20. Since the roof collapse we have been doing everything we can to assist investigations into the cause of the collapse. We are working closely with structural engineers, the local authority and tenants to ensure that the centre can re-open as soon as possible.

“In the interim, we have made space available for temporary stores within the car park; so far Boots and Barclays have opened there and we expect further stores to open in due course. The market is open on Tuesdays and Saturdays at the western end of the site close to the bus stops.

“Our absolute priority is to get the centre open and trading again. To provide the community with the latest information as and when it becomes available, we have set up a website www.langneyshoppingcentre.co.uk and encourage people to sign up to the mailing list to receive our updates.”
