Land girl's day to remember
A FORMER land girl from Seaford had a day to remember after enjoying tea at Buckingham Palace.
Grace Everest was invited, along with Doris Bradley and Alice Racher from Eastbourne, to the event on October 21. They also had a special lunch at the Royal Opera House.
Grace said, "It was so fantastic, it was lovely at the Royal Opera House. Everyone was so friendly. We also got to see the Queen with the Duke of Edinburgh."
The trio travelled up to London by train with Grace's husband Leslie and Doris and Alice's daughters.
All three women served in the Women's Land Army during World War Two and were invited as part of a special celebration of the service, which coincided with an exhibition at the Brighton Museum & Art Gallery – 'The Land Girls: Cinderellas of the Soil'.
Grace joined the Land Army at 19 and lodged at Mount Pleasant in Newhaven and nearby Stud Farm where she worked for a local farmer. More than 80 women from all over the UK were invited to last week's event.
