THESE cute little kittens who survived a house fire are looking for a loving home to go to.

The pair were rescued following a blaze in Brodrick Road in Hampden Park back in July which saw seven cats perish.

Sadly the moggies died of smoke inhalation and around half a dozen more, including a mother and three of her babies, also passed away later on.

But a handful were rescued after the fire broke out in an airing cupboard at the property.

Maureen Wheeler had been looking after three kittens and has re-homed one but is now looking for a loving home for the remaining two called Billy and Samantha.

She has been looking after the boy and girl, aged around 19 and 17 weeks respectively, at her home in Warbleton, near Heathfield.

She said, “People generally know I’m into cats. It seems the lady uses the same vets as me and that seems to be the connection and she phoned me.

“People know I’m a softie for cats and would take them on in a crisis.

“They have a been a delight. They obviously had some breathing difficulties associated with smoke inhalation and had a course of antibiotics but they are up and running about now big time.”

The pair, which have both been neutered, survived the fire which took hold in the afternoon of Friday July 13. Fire crews took around 15 minutes to bring the flames under control.

Those that survived were taken to a local vets for checks and further treatment.

Now Mrs Wheeler, who has another six older cats at her home, is looking for someone to take on the kittens and hopes they can re-homed together.

She added, “I’m looking for a permanent home for them where they are going to be loved - a kind, safe and knowledgeable home.”

The lady whose house caught fire also has four young cats that survived the fire that need to be re-homed.

Anyone who can help should call Mrs Wheeler on 01435 830189.
