A SEVEN YEAR jail sentence has been handed down to an Eastbourne man who lashed out with a knife during an attack at a Hailsham pub.

Lucas Lamb, of Walton Close, was at the Corn Exchange in the High Street on Saturday May 12 when trouble flared in the early hours of the next morning.

At an earlier hearing magistrates heard how a fellow pub-goer who was slashed with a Stanley knife needed 85 stitches and his injuries were initially thought to be life-threatening because of the blood loss.

However, this was able to be controlled.

The court was told victim Alec Pope was at the premises when his son was punched by a person who was not 29-year-old Lamb.

Following the incident police announced they were looking to speak to Lamb

in connection with the

attack after the blade used hit an artery in the man’s

throat.

He pleaded guilty to wounding with intent at a crown court hearing in August and was remanded in custody until his sentencing last month at Lewes Crown Court where Judge Guy Anthony caged the 29-year-old for seven years.

After the sentencing Wealden District Commander Chief Inspector Dick Coates said, “This was a particularly nasty attack and I am pleased that the courts have seen the severity of the incident and given an appropriate sentence.”
