Iceland opens in Bexhill

THE LONG anticipated wait for the opening of the new Iceland store in Devonshire Road came to fruition on Thursday when it opened it's doors for the first time.

And, despite mixed reactions from locals prior to the opening, early signs indicate that it's going to be a great success.

Store Manager Chris Dabering, who lives in Eastbourne, was pleased the first day went so well and said it's time the popular frozen food chain, which once had premises at Ravenside, was back in the town.

Chris said: "It's been a brilliant first day and it's gone really well. It's time we were back in Bexhill and the feedback from customers has been very good."

The new store, which has taken over the premises once occupied by Woolworths, has created thirty seven new jobs in the area and Iceland's Area Sales Manager David Moor said they are delighted to have opened up again in the town.

David said: "We are delighted to have opened our new store in Bexhill on Sea. This represents a considerable investment by Iceland Foods and we have created thirty seven new jobs for the area. Our range of frozen, fresh and grocery will add greatly to the food shopping choice in Bexhill. We will also be providing free home delivery for customers who spend over 25."

Many locals had expressed concerns about the store's location due to lack of parking in the vicinity, but Bexhillians Mr & Mrs Williams, who were enjoying their first day shopping at their new local store, believe the location is fine.

Mrs Williams said: "It's actually quite useful for people without cars. Now we have Sainsbury's and Iceland nearby so we think it's ideal really."

An added bonus is that the new Iceland store is running a trolley dash competition in the next few weeks.

Further information on the competition is available in store.
