How will you celebrate the royal wedding?

PLANS are already underway for street parties across the town to celebrate the royal wedding.

With Prince William marrying Kate Middleton on April 29 town MP Stephen Lloyd and Eastbourne Borough Council are calling for the community to come together to mark the occasion.

These plans coincide with the council launching a new leaflet to make organising street parties much easier.

Stephen Lloyd said, “I’ve already had many constituents tell me how pleased they are at the news, and, being a public holiday too, this will give Eastbourne the opportunity to get involved.

“From schools to families, and veterans to community groups, Eastbourne will have the chance to toast the happy couple. With the date now announced, I am excited to talk to different groups and put plans in place for what is set to be a fantastic celebration next spring.”

As well as making it easy for residents to hold their own celebrations, the council is looking into holding a party in Princes Park offering the chance to bring the whole community together for the occasion.

Residents are being encouraged to get in touch with the council to explain how they would like to mark the occasion next year and share any ideas.

Rob Cottrill, Eastbourne Borough Council chief executive, said, “The royal wedding will be an occasion which groups of people all over Eastbourne will want to mark in their own way. The council will offer advice and support for all sorts of events, helping residents organise successful celebrations. With plans for a large community event as well, April 29 promises to be a day to remember.”
