Hospital boss dies suddenly

A popular former chief executive of Eastbourne DGH has died suddenly.
Alan Randall died at his home in Shoreham on Wednesday (October 10). The 66-year-old was chief executive at Eastbourne Hospitals NHS Trust for more than two years until he left at the end of 2001.
He had also previously run a hospital in West Sussex.
A DGH spokesperson said, “It is with great sadness we learnt about the death of Alan Randall. Staff still remember him fondly and our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.”
Mr Randall also spent a short time as chief executive at St Wilfrid’s Hospice in Eastbourne. He worked at the hospice for six months but is still fondly remembered by those who worked with him.
A spokesperson from the hospice said, “Alan was a wonderful wise man. He played an important, albeit brief, part in the history of St Wilfrid’s Hospice and we send our condolences to his family and friends.”

After his time in healthcare, Mr Randall founded the first purpose-built beach sports centre in the country in Brighton. Yellowave on Maderia Drive has become a popular sporting attraction and the team said it would not have been the success it is without him.
They said he was ‘full of drive and passion’ and would be missed terribly.
