A service which helps people of all ages in Eastbourne with mental health problems is gaining in popularity.

Brightview Mental Health Resource Centre is in Saffrons Road and is run by Sussex Oakleaf, the chosen provider by East Sussex County Council, with the aim of helping young, old and those in between to survive crisis and recover control in their lives.

With an increase in the number of people suffering with anxiety, depression and other mental health issues because of life’s challenges, the service has set up a number of new groups to cater for its clients, who can either self-refer or be referred through their doctor or other agencies.

Vickie Hodge from Brightview Centre said, “We work in partnership with the people who use our services to provide personalised support and provide tailored and comprehensive packages of support which meet peoples’ needs, responds to their aspirations and choices as they change over time. “People have access to help when they need it, to enable them to take control of their lives. “This support enables people to live more independently, develop the skills and confidence to increase their independence and social inclusion across a range of social and vocational activities. It also helps create true independence, social inclusion and citizenship.”

Among the groups on offer are drama, sport, confidence building, relaxation, cooking on a budget and there is also a community cafe at Brightview for people to drop in for an informal chat.

A new group for people aged 60 plus with mental health needs runs Tuesdays from 10am-12pm at the WRVS Centre in Russell Road, an Old Town Social Group meets at the Community Centre in Central Avenue on Thursdays from 10am-12pm and the latest group is the Eastbourne Young Adults Service for 18-25-year-olds which runs Tuesdays from 2-4pm at the centre in Saffrons Road.
