HAILSHAM: Husband grabbed wife around throat
A WOMAN said she thought her husband of 18 years was going to kill her when he grabbed her around the throat, a court heard on Monday (May 9).
The prosecution said Mukai Chipudhla seized his wife Thullswa around the neck and arm at their home in Butts Field, Hailsham on April 11.
He forced her backwards into their bathroom, falling over the threshold and landing on top of her.
Mrs Thullswa was knocked out as she hit her head on the side of the bath.
When she came to, they continued their argument and he splashed and squirted her with water.
Prosecutor Helen Constantinou said, “She (Thullswa) believes that the defendant was going to kill her and still holds fears about what he will do if he is given the opportunity to do so.”
Mrs Thullswa, who said she was extremely distressed by the incident, claimed her husband was increasingly controlling and aggressive which led to this assault.
Chipudhla pleaded guilty to assault by beating on a basis on April 18 and the prosecution agreed the basis at Eastbourne Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
Madeleine Priestley, defending, said she would not mitigate until a pre-sentence report is done by probation service.
Probation will prepare an all-options report before Thullswa reappears before magistrates on June 6.
Chipudhia was released on conditional bail.
He is not to contact his wife directly or indirectly and he is not to return to his home address.
