Guitarist's song of childhood
A CLASSICALLY-trained singer-songwriter has written a song about his childhood near the Crumbles in Pevensey Bay Road.
Stephen Durrant, 25, who describes himself as 'the lovechild of Ron Sexsmith, Ed Harcourt, and a household vacuum cleaner', spent half of his life in Eastbourne, staying with his grandparents in Langney, and the town has found its way into several of his lyrics.
This is his third musical incarnation, following his time playing the violin in two orchestras and two years in indie-rock band Private Lives.
He hopes to release an EP single in the winter, although as yet is not signed to a record label.
Speaking about his song The Crumbles, Stephen said, "I have so many memories of being over at the Crumbles, where the marina is.
"Before that was built, it was literally miles upon miles of nothing, with habitats for plants and birds.
"It was a fantastic place and I used to spend a lot of time over there as a child, just playing. It is a very strong memory."
The singer, who lives in Kingston, plays gigs in and around London but hopes to return to Eastbourne to perform in the near future. He expects to release an album next year.
