GROUP BARES ALL IN MEMORY OF FRANCES

MEMBERS of a pantomime group have bared all in the name of one of their best friends.

Frances Powney lost her battle with breast cancer in September.

She had been an ardent charity worker, raising thousands of pounds for the charity Football 4 Peace for Frances, renamed in her honour.

Members of the Wellington Charity Players decided they wanted to do something to remember their friend and raise money for charity.

Sue Bird, a member of the group, said, 'She was a friend of mine and she used to come and watch our pantomimes every year and really enjoy them.

'A lot of people have asked why we aren't doing it for a cancer charity but Fran wanted any money raised to go to the charity she cared so strongly about.

'I think Fran would think it was very funny and would be very flattered.

'I think she would be overwhelmed by it. Fran could actually be quite shy about asking for help with her causes.'

On modelling for the calendar Sue said, 'I posed with the chap who works on the technical side of the plays, we were photographed on the stairs together.

'We had a couple posing with umbrellas as they had done a Singing in the Rain type of scene.

'There was also a Captain Hook and Tinkerbell.

'The atmosphere was electric — we had some shy people and some not so shy people.

'Chris Ashley, the photographer, was marvellous.

'She was so matter-of-fact that you didn't really feel embarrassed.'

The photo shoot took place in the Wellington Hotel, Steyne Road.

Anthony Patterson, assistant manager at the Wellington Hotel said, 'It is quite bizarre coming down in the morning and seeing naked men but it is all good fun and all in a good cause.'

The group hope that calendars should be on sale from December at the Wellington and Frances' husband David has also agreed to sell some.

He said, 'I have promised to sell some so if anyone wants to help me out that would be great!'
