Good Samaritan thwarts street robbery in Eastbourne

A good Samaritan came to the aid of a man who was being robbed in an Eastbourne street.

The victim was set upon by two men as he was walking down Belmore Road on Monday afternoon at around 4pm. He was approached by two men, tried to run away, but one of the attackers grabbed the victim’s bag and a tussle broke out.

The other attacker joined in before the victim was helped by a passer-by who came to his aid. The two attacks ran off towards Sydney Road empty-handed.

Police say the victim was uninjured. Detective Constable Phil Cracknell said: “The victim was shaken by his ordeal. We are appealing for witnesses who may have seen the struggle or the suspects running off.”

The first suspect is described as black, aged between 19 and 23-years-old. He was about 5ft 8in tall, medium build with a very short hair. The man was wearing a black Adidas Jumper and black Adidas tracksuit bottoms with three red stripes on the outside of the sleeves and the trousers.

The second suspect is described as a mixed race man, between 5ft 9in and 6ft 2in tall, skinny build and aged between 19 to 23-years-old. The man was balding and his hair was shaved. He was wearing a light blue/sky blue jumper that may have had a white logo on the middle and dark jeans.
