Good report for Causeway
Pupils and Executive Head Terry Boatwright from Causeway School celebrated receiving a Good OFSTED report. January 16th 2013 E03130P
Staff and pupils at The Causeway are celebrating after Ofsted rated it a ‘good’ school.
The Causeway School in Larkspur Drive was inspected in December under a new tougher Government inspection framework and was upgraded to ‘good’. Soon after it entered into a partnership with another local school, Bishop Bell, in 2009 Causeway was graded as ‘satisfactory’ but rapidly improving. It appears that improvement has continued.
Inspectors said , “Students make good progress and achieve well especially in English.
“As a result of good and some outstanding teaching, students’ achievement is raised during their time at the school.”
The report praised the teachers at the school.
It said, “In the best lessons teachers use their good subject knowledge and information about students to plan well for their individual needs, use questioning skills to check on
progress and set a lively pace to engage students in their learning.”
Inspectors went on to say that the children felt safe in the school and ‘displayed good attitudes towards their learning’.
The youngsters were praised for their good behaviour and how respectful they are of each other and adults.
Inspectors also report that there are few incidents of bullying and said, “When this does occur it is dealt with effectively by the school.”
For Terry Boatwright, executive headteacher for The Causeway, Bishop Bell and Stafford, this was his third Ofsted in just six school weeks.
In this latest report he is praised for his leadership.
The inspectors said, “The executive headteacher and headteacher lead a large senior team who share a relentless drive to raise students’ achievement through improved teaching.”
Mr Boatwright, said, “We are delighted that this report not only rates The Causeway as a good school, but also recognises the rapid improvement made in recent years.
“I am very grateful to the governors, staff, students and parents for all they have done to help us to achieve so much together.”
The report outlined ways in which The Causeway could become an ‘outstanding’ school.
These included more lesson plans from teachers to provide ‘ pace and challenge’ for the students.
Inspectors also said, “Data are not always used systematically enough by teachers to identify and act upon the individual needs of all students.
The report suggested more monitoring and evaluation of teaching my leaders at the school.
It also stated that the rate of exclusions was still too high and ‘prevents some students from achieving’.
