Parents of children attending Shinewater Primary school have launched a campaign to

reinstate the school crossing patrol in Milfoil Drive.

Langney Councillor Alan Shuttleworth is assisting with the collection of signatures for a petition calling upon East Sussex County Council to reinstate the school crossing patrol.

He said, “A number of parents have described incidents where an accident has been narrowly avoided.

“It is not acceptable to wait until someone is seriously injured before putting in a crossing patrol.”

Shinewater Primary School Governors and the headteacher, Mr John Greenwood, are also backing the campaign.

Mr Greenwood said, “There have been several near misses with pupils and parents crossing Milfoil Drive since the crossing patrol has stopped.

“I am very concerned that there will be a serious accident involving a child if we do not get our patrol back.”

The Chair of East Sussex County Council has received a request for funding of the crossing patrol.

Campaigners have vowed to keep up the campaign until the patrol is restored.

Councillor Shuttleworth added, “I have witnessed situations where young children have almost stepped out in front of cars. A crossing patrol person would make the road safe for schoolchildren at each end of the school day.”
