Gila scales mountain peaks to back charity

editorial image

A hiker from Bodle St Green will take on her second African mountain climb in just two weeks.

Gila Hale, 24, will attempt to climb Mount Toubkal, North Africa’s highest mountain later this week, just two weeks after she led a team of eight to the summit of Africa’s highest mountain, Mt Kilimanjaro.

Gila is leading the Twin Peaks challenge to raise funds for the charity she works for, Farm Africa.

The UK charity is tackling hunger in Africa not through food aid, but instead through agricultural innovation and business enterprise.

Two weeks ago Gila led a team of seven other climbers from the National Farmers Union (NFU) to the highest point in Africa to raise funds for the NFU’s Africa 100 Appeal which is benefitting Farm Africa.

So far the appeal has raised £26,557.

Gila said, “I’m certainly not looking forward to the altitude sickness again after suffering from the worst headache ever at the top of Kilimanjaro.

“But it will all be worth it with people coming together from different companies to fundraise for Farm Africa’s life-changing work!”
