Get ready for town’s half marathon race
Eastbourne Half Marathon
Get ready, set, go for Eastbourne Half Marathon which kicks off in just three weeks on March 3.
More than 1,400 runners, joggers and walkers will be taking part in the 13.1 mile race.
Following some impressive runs in recent years, the record for completing the course currently stands at 1 hour and 11 minutes, and organisers are hoping that the success of the Olympic year may give runners the added boost to break event records in 2013.
The event, now in its ninth year and sponsored by Reid+Dean, starts at Princes Park at 10am.
Race organisers have been running a Fitness Boot Camp this year, to offer a training programme and help for beginners.
A spokesman said, “The Eastbourne Half is very much a community event and is most definitely aimed at runners of all abilities.
“We as organisers are just as excited at seeing the last person finish as we are the first; so why not set yourself the challenge for 2013.
“Get out your running shoes and get training.
“Also new for this year we have more bands and entertainment along the route offering encouragement and we will have ‘pacers’ to help you achieve your set goal or PB.”
The picturesque course takes in Eastbourne’s seafront, a mile-long hill in Meads and Sovereign Harbour.
Younger runners can also join the challenge with a 1km race for under 12s and a 2km race for under 17s.
Organisers are looking for volunteers and marshals. If you can help email run@eastbournehalf.co.uk or call 07974 681011.
