Fundraising event to aid Moldova children

A SEAFORD resident is staging a fundraising event this Saturday in aid of children living in Moldova.

Kathryn Hesketh, who flew out to the country earlier this year with a team from Mission Direct, wants to purchase games, toys and sports equipment that can be enjoyed by the youngsters out there.

She is holding a coffee morning with a cake stall, tombola, Christmas crafts and much more to raise funds so that she can buy the goods and take them with her when she flies out to the country again next July.

In June this year Kathryn travelled to Eastern Europe and stayed with a host family for a fortnight and helped to clear out a building in Cilcarne that could be used by residents as a place of worship and as a youth club by local children.

She then stayed with another host family in one of the districts of Chisinau and spent travelled three hours a day to work in an orphanage.

Kathryn, who described the experience as 'humbling and satisfying' is looking forward to seeing some of the same faces again.

She said, "I can't wait to go back, I wish I could go now. It will be lovely to see the children again and how they have grown."

Since her visit she has been in touch with some of the people out there by email to see how they are doing.

The money raised from Saturday's event will be spent on various items such as pens, pencils and crickets sets that can equip the place of worship and be used by the children.

The coffee morning will take place between 10am and 12 noon at the Clinton Centre in Clinton Place, Seaford.
