Four Eastbourne schools to benefit in council’s £20 million investment
Cash-strapped East Sussex County Council has calculated it is spending more than £20m to improve schools across the county - including work at four Eastbourne schools.
The projects include new buildings and extensions, major building repair work, roof upgrades and repairs, landscaping, access improvements, temporary accommodation, heating maintenance and general repairs.
Extensions have been added to The Haven CofE Primary School and Heron Park Junior Academy, and the conversion of Hampden Park Infants to form College Central West.
The county council has been working on about 100 separate schemes at primary, secondary schools and colleges and special schools.
Many of the projects were completed over the summer in time for the start of the new term in early September.
Councillor Keith Glazier, deputy leader of the county council, said, “We’re investing millions of pounds to improve and repair our school buildings.
“We know we’ve still got a lot of work to do in this area.
“However, parents, carers and school staff can be confident that even in these tough times for council budgets, we are working hard to carry out the improvements and repairs on our priority lists.
“These contracts also help to boost local business, supporting our overall aims to regenerate the East Sussex economy,”
Other work includes a replacement roofs at Marshlands Primary, Hailsham and Parkland Infant School, and a replacement boiler at Polegate School.
