Former Sussex Downs student celebrates Radio 4 role
FORMER Sussex Downs College student Fiona Scrase from Eastbourne is celebrating her new role as as assistant producer at BBC Radio 4.
Fiona will be working on the You and Yours Show, the consumer affairs programme from this September where she will be producing features, undertaking interviews, outside broadcasts and overseeing creative ideas.
Fiona successfully completed her Media Production course in 2007 at Eastbourne Vocational College (EVoC), part of Sussex Downs College.
Prior to her new appointment Fiona worked as freelance broadcast journalist at local Eastbourne station Sovereign FM working with former news editor Saffron Swansborough, who is now a lecturer in Media at EVoC.
Fiona began her education at Willingdon School where she got the passion for radio after being interviewed for the education and business community project Eastbourne Youth Radio (EYR) in 2001.
Fiona said, "I caught the 'radio bug' after taking part in EYR at Sussex Downs College in 2001, I was interviewed live and from that moment on I've never looked back.
"I still get the same adrenalin rush now when reading live bulletins as I did on my first ever broadcast on EYR.
"Over the past seven years I've built up my knowledge by work experience, hospital radio and through my Media Production course at Sussex Downs College, which I loved.
"EYR is a fantastic opportunity for people to get involved with, I hope there are many other children who find their career through taking part, as it celebrates its 10th anniversary year.
"My new job at Radio 4 is something I never thought would happen and it is slowly sinking in! To work on such a recognised show is great I'm looking forward to working along side some amazing journalists and learning from the best in the industry."
