Flags fly proudly for the armed forces
EASTBOURNE marked Armed Forces Day with a flag-raising ceremony at the Redoubt Fortress.
Armed Forces Day was held to honour the country's armed forces past, present and future.
Eastbourne Mayor Cllr Greg Szanto said, "This was an important opportunity to acknowledge the great debt we owe the brave men and women who have been prepared to give their lives to protect us.
"Many, in making the ultimate sacrifice, have not grown old. Others, in suffering terrible injuries, will grow old. Let us remember them all with gratitude."
The mayor, alongside standard bearers, attended the flag-raising ceremony on June 22, held to coincide with flag-raising events across Britain.
Then on Armed Forces Weekend, June 27-28, there will be a Drumhead Church Service on Saturday (10.30am) led by the Rev Howard John, where veterans will be presented with special badges by the Mayor and MP for Eastbourne Nigel Waterson.
This will be followed in the afternoon with music and dancing with Johnny Spice and In the Mood dance troupe.
On Sunday, visitors to the Redoubt Fortress can enjoy 1940s entertainment from the USO Show from midday.
