Firearms offence arrest
Two men have been arrested after a witness reported a gun was pointed at them in Seaford.
Firearms officers rushed to the scene after police received reports of a rider and his pillion passenger travelling through the town on a motorbike, terrifying onlookers.
They were contacted after one witness claimed a gun was pointed at them, while another said they heard what they thought was a gun being fired.
The incidents were reported as happening in Station Approach and shortly afterwards in Sheep Pen Lane at around 6pm on Saturday October 13 and two men were arrested in the early hours of Sunday October 14.
A 20-year-old man from Eastbourne and a 22-year-old from Lewes were arrested on suspicion of using an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.
The incidents are believed to be linked to similar offences in the Crawley area.
The pair have been bailed until November 29 pending further enquiries.
A spokesman from Sussex Police said, “Two men aged 22 and 20 have been arrested on suspicion of firearms offences following reports of a gun being pointed at a member of the public in Seaford on Saturday 13 October.
“The suspects were riding around on a blue Suzuki motorcycle at the time of the incident, which was reported to police at 6pm. Several units were deployed to the area including firearms officers.”
