The fire service’s Eastbourne emergency call centre is to move to Haywards Heath.

The large East Sussex Fire and Rescue office in Upperton Road will remain, but the Policy and Resources Panel at East Sussex Fire Authority decided to move the call centre department at a meeting earlier today (May 24).

The panel formally approved Haywards Heath Fire Station as the preferred location for the Sussex call centre.

This will involve the emergency call departments from both Eastbourne and Chichester moving in together at Haywards Heath.

In the report, Des Prichard, chief fire officer and chief executive, said, “The search for properties has been mainly directed along the A23 corridor in order to obtain, if possible, a central location to and from where staff from both services can reasonably travel.

“Thirty-two properties have been considered. Following meetings of the Joint Project Board and Joint Steering Group and, in the absence of progress with the Sussex Police Lewes HQ option, three final options are considered, all in the Haywards Heath area.”
