Fire engine heads for Argentina
A FULLY equipped fire engine has been handed over to a charity which will take it to a deprived community in Argentina where there is no firefighting equipment.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service presented the fire engine to representatives from the charity, Operation Florian, at Eastbourne Fire Station recently.
Operation Florian is a UK fire service humanitarian charity that provides equipment and training around the world in order to improve fire fighting and rescue capabilities in areas that in some cases do not have any fire fighting ability at all.
Trevor Green, secretary of the National Association of Retired Firefighters in East Sussex, has been actively involved with the charity since 2002 and will be taking the fire appliance to a Welsh-speaking community in Patagonia, Argentina, which currently has no fire fighting equipment at all.
The fire engine has been kitted out with all of the relevant equipment, and senior officers, including deputy chief fire officer Chris Large and chairman of the Fire Authority, Councillor Mike Murphy, were at the handing over. (e23157j)
