Fantastic response to community radio station
A community radio station for Seaford has been overwhelmed by the positive feedback it has received since taking to the air at the beginning of the month.
Nick Mallinson's dream of bringing news, music and programmes to the airwaves gained interest following a discussion with three other businessmen at Seaford and Newhaven's Chamber of Commerce breakfast meeting.
Seahaven FM is now in its second week and was officially opened by Seaford Mayor Ralph Taylor and Seaford MP Norman Baker — who is also presenting a show on Sunday morning of Jazz and Blues.
Breakfast show presenter Steve Pilfold, who travels to the Seaford Studios from his home in Newhaven, said the station sometimes gets more e-mails and phone calls than the volunteers can cope with — a fantastic response.
Seahaven FM is broadcasting 24 hours a day on 87.7 until March 29 as part of its efforts to gain a full-time community radio licence. From the end of March, the station plans to remain broadcasting via the Internet and will be running training courses in order to get more local people trained so they can be involved in Seahaven FM's next FM broadcast planned for the summer.
The station's MD Nick Mallinson added, "The response has been better than we could have ever hoped for, with a few weeks to go we hope to continue getting local people in to tell listeners what is going on locally."
