Fairtrade Eastbourne have it all mapped out

Fairtrade Eastbourne has launched a Fairtrade guide, complete with town centre map, of Eastbourne ready for Fairtrade Fortnight which stared this week.

The group was joined by Borough Council leader David Tutt and businesses featured in the guide, Le Loup, Mulberry Bush, Urban Ground Café, Eucalyptus and Paprika Café and the Under Ground Theatre for the launch at the Town Hall.

“The guide really shows there is a lot of Fairtrade available in our town, but you do have to know where to find it.” said Matt Wilkinson, Chair of Fairtrade Eastbourne.

“Hopefully this map will make it easier for residents to find Fairtrade when it appears across the town in the coming weeks.

“The Fairtrade process ensures farmers in developing countries get a fair price for their crops. But it only works if we choose Fairtrade and support the businesses that offer it locally,” said Matt.

The guide contains short introductions to Fairtrade and the local campaign and a list of business known to the group to be offering Fairtrade products to their customers. This might include teas and coffees, snacks, gold jewellery, clothing, gifts and cosmetics.

The Fairtrade Mark works by supporting producers in developing countries with an agreed minimum market price for their crops and also an additional investment premium which is spent, for example, to develop the business or to build a school or clinic for the community.
