Eastbourne teenager charged over house burglary

POLICE were called to an address in Castle Bolton, Stone Cross, at 11.50am on Tuesday morning after a resident noticed some suspicious activity.

According to Sussex Police, a description was passed to officers who began searching the area. Thanks to local knowledge, police officers identified the man and found him at his home where a stolen laptop was retrieved.

Wealden District Commander Chief Inspector Dick Coates said, “We have seen a significant rise in burglaries recently not only across Wealden but also across East Sussex. However with the excellent work of my officers we have made a number of arrests which has meant we have seen a sharp reduction since the beginning of May.

“My message to anyone considering committing an offence on Wealden is, we will target you, and we will catch you. I would like to thank all members of the public that call in when seeing suspicious behaviour, because it is your help and vigilance that continues to make Wealden one of the safest places to live.”

A 16-year-old boy from Eastbourne has been charged with burglary and was due to appear at Eastbourne Magistrates Court yesterday.
