Kai and Natalia on Britian's Got Talent

EASTBOURNE Borough boss Tommy Widdrington was delighted on Monday night when his son made it through to the final of Britain’s Got Talent, writes David Turner.

Kai, 16, and his ballroom dance partner Natalia Jeved will be competing in the live show tomorrow (Saturday) after the judges sent them through in the second semi-final.

The ballroom dance couple went through alongside opera singing duo Jonathan Antoine and Charlotte Jaconelli as 14-year-old singer Paige Turley bowed out.

Head judge Simon Cowell was left with the penultimate vote after Jonathan and Charlotte had been voted in by the public.

David Walliams backed Paige but Cowell’s vote along with Amanda Holden’s and Alesha Dixon’s ensured Kai and Natalia reached the final.

Having chosen the duo, the BGT boss said to Kai and Natalia, “You two look like winners. You put the work in.”

Kai and Natalia, who danced to Jet’s hit ‘Are You Gonna Be My Girl’ also received positive feedback from judge Alesha.

The former Strictly Come Dancing champion told them, “You’re making Latin ballroom dancing look cool. I think you really do deserve to go through.”

After the show the dancers admitted they were shocked at reaching the final.

Kai, who lives with his mother in Southampton, said, “We’re going to have to start again from square one. We weren’t expecting to get into the final, but we’re going to think of something new again!”

Boro’ boss Widdrington sees similarities between his team and Kai and Natalia.

He said, “I harp on to my players all the time about hard work and how you get out of it what you put in.

“There’s a lot of similarities between dancing and sport in terms of the character, discipline and hard work.”

The Borough boss will be backing his son all the way. “I was there on Monday and I will be there again on Saturday,” said Tommy.

“I just hope people who know him, and know me, will vote for him and do all they can to help.”

The winner will receive £500,000 and perform at the Royal Variety Performance.

Saturday’s final will be shown on ITV1 at 7.30pm.
