Duchess gives push to cinema movement

FILM buffs have joined forces to take on the task of running a community cinema in Seaford.

A new committee has been set up following the success of a previous showing earlier in the year when people were asked if they would be interested in a monthly cinema club.

Due to the response and interest in wanting to keep the club up and running a committee has been formed and the next cinema showing will be at the Little Theatre in Steyne Road, Seaford, at 2pm (doors open at 1.30pm) on Tuesday May 19.

The film will be The Duchess starring Keira Knightley and Ralph Fiennes.

The 12A-rated film portrays the adventures of a rich and talented 18th century woman frustrated by the limitations imposed on her by her sex and her class. She falls in love with an ambitious young politician, an affair which leads to bitter conflict with her husband and causes a major scandal.

The long-term aim of Seaford Community Cinema will be to provide films in Seaford for people who might not wish to or be unable to travel to Eastbourne or Brighton to see a film; and also to provide an environment where the films can be seen and shared in friendly, sociable surroundings.

It will show films which have passed current release but have not yet appeared on general access TV. From time to time there will be some classic films, or films of particular merit.

The initial grant which was received from East Sussex Down & Weald Primary Care Trust will enable the group to function for some time but because of the limited accommodation at the Little Theatre, the charge has had to be increased to 4 which will include tea or coffee and biscuits. For further details of if you are interested in joining the team helping to run this interesting project, please see the Seaford Community Partnership's website, www.seafordpartners.co.uk or contact Tony on 01323 891884.
