Drugs seized in early-morning raids across town
DRUGS and weapons were seized in a series of raids across Eastbourne this week.
Heroin, cannabis, two stun guns and counterfeit currency were uncovered when more than 80 police officers raided homes and businesses in the town on Wednesday morning.
Five people were arrested in the raids, code named Operation Reveal and co-ordinated by Eastbourne Police.
Properties in Southfields Road, Waterworks Road, Leslie Street, Seaside, Seaside Road, Susans Road and Pevensey Road were hit in the morning raids in a bid to crack down on drug dealers from London targeting addicts in Eastbourne.
Chief Inspector Jayne Dando, Eastbourne district police commander, said, “We will not tolerate drug dealers from London and elsewhere targeting vulnerable people in Eastbourne.
“The town is home to a relatively small number of people that have fallen into a chaotic lifestyle of drug and alcohol misuse.
“It is clear these people are vulnerable and while they themselves commit some crime, they are also being targeted by dealers travelling to Eastbourne who take advantage of their addictions and often threaten and intimidate them to deal drugs on the street.
“Police activity has been very much focused on sending a clear message, driving the dealers out of Eastbourne and offering support and protection to those taken advantage of.
“This will not be a one hit approach, but a sustained attack to ensure dealers from elsewhere consider Eastbourne a no-go zone.
“Sussex Police will continue to target drug dealing and criminals in the town and we are prepared to take action when we have intelligence to support drug warrants.”
Detectives, special support officers and police dogs were involved in the raids which began at 9.30am when several addresses were hit simultaneously across the town.
Police say the raids were the result of three years’ work of gathering intelligence on organised crime gangs travelling down from London to operate in Eastbourne.
