Driver’s £100 fine for changing plate

A Hailsham motorist who changed his registration plate to read Dave G has been fined by magistrates.

David Greenwood was stopped by police after he was spotted driving a car at the Cophall Farm roundabout at Polegate on January 24.

Police noticed a couple of the figures had been altered on the number plate of the BMW he was driving from D8YEG so the plate would read Dave G.

Eastbourne magistrates heard this meant it stepped outside of the regulations.

The 23-year-old appeared at Eastbourne Magistrates’ court on Tuesday, March 5.

Greenwood, of Station Road, pleaded guilty to driving a vehicle when the registration mark fails to conform with regulations.

Representing himself Greenwood said, “I changed it but I have changed it back now.”

He was fined £100 and must also pay a £20 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
