Driver is fined after changing car plate

A motorist who changed his registration plate to be more personalised has been fined.

David Greenwood, of Station Road, Hailsham, was stopped by police after he was spotted driving a BMW at the Cophall roundabout at Polegate on January 24.

They noticed a couple of the figures had been altered to look different to what they were, so the plate would read Dave G.

Eastbourne magistrates heard this meant it stepped outside of the regulations and on Tuesday (March 5) this week the 23-year-old appeared at court.

Greenwood pleaded guilty to driving a vehicle when the registration mark fails to conform with regulations.

Representing himself Greenwood said, “I changed it but I have changed it back now.”

He was fined £100 and must also pay a £20 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
