Drink-driver given three-year ban
A NURSE who drove while over the limit to get milk for his young daughter has received a lengthy disqualification.
Thomas Jacob, of Willowfield Road, was seen by police driving a van without lights on the evening of August 15.
They flashed the 33-year-old to warn him and after a period of time Jacob put on his lights. But officers pulled him over after he swerved across the road.
He had 55mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35mcg.
Jacobs, who received a 12-month disqualification in 2005 for failing to provide a specimen for analysis, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol at a hearing at Eastbourne Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
Graham Pithouse, defending, said, "His cousin was returning to India for a wedding and prior to him leaving they decided to have some alcohol and I was told Mr Jacobs had two pints of beer.
"He has a four-year-old girl and there was no milk in the house. He went to the local corner shop to find it closed and he took the decision, as he thought he was not over the limit, to drive to Tesco."
Jacobs was told he would receive a lengthy ban because of his previous offence and was disqualified from driving for three years.
He was also fined 400 and ordered to pay 70 costs and a 15 victim surcharge.
