Drink-driver gets ban

AN HGV driver has been banned from driving for four years and fined more than £700 for drink driving.

It was 42-year-old Robert Stevenson's third drink drive offence.

Stevenson was stopped when police saw a Renault Laguna swerving on the A259 in Pevensey Bay on November 25.

He admitted to drinking four pints. A breath test showed he was more than twice the legal drink drive limit.

Representing himself, Stevenson, of Eastbourne Road, Pevensey Bay pleaded guilty and said he had not touched a drop of alcohol since being banned for drink driving in 2003 but said he had an argument with his girlfriend and spent the evening drinking in the pub on the evening he was stopped.

Stevenson was fined 617, plus 100 costs and had his UK licence removed. He told the court that he holds two European licences and he planned to travel abroad to work as a HGV driver the day after the hearing, which was at Eastbourne Magistrates' Court on Tuesday (December 8).
