TOMORROW (September 12) is the final Lunchtime Concert this year in All Soul’s Church, Susan’s Road, 1pm, when opera singer Jane Money and friends entertain. Admission is free, with a retiring collection to defray expenses. Eat your lunch in the church while enjoying the music.
ALSO tomorrow, The Uckfield Concert Brass presents a concert at the Bandstand at 8pm which will culminate in a spectacular firework display to accompany Tchaikovsky’s ‘1812 Overture’. Advance tickets available from the seafront office, adjacent to the Bandstand, or the Tourist Information Centre (TIC), Cornfield Road.
ALSO tomorrow, the Blood Donor Unit, is at King’s Church Centre, Edison Road, 2pm-4.30pm and 5.30pm-8pm. Help to save a person’s life by donating a pint of your blood.
MR FRED Hoadley will talk about ‘Aspects of Swiss Philately’ to the E.S.D. Philatelic Society on Thursday, September 13, at 7.30pm, in the upstairs hall of the St. John’s Ambulance Brigade HQ, Bourne Street. The meeting and stamp viewing usually lasts for an hour and a half and all are welcome.
ON FRIDAY, September 14, you can listen to the Roy Hilton Jazz Quintet at 8pm in the Under Ground Theatre, with music associated with New York’s “Birdland” Jazz Club. Tickets from the TIC, the coffee mornings or at the door. The ‘City of Ashes’ play live, acoustic rock at the Saturday morning event, from 10am-12noon.
EASTBOURNE Rambling Club has a five-mile leisurely ramble on Saturday, September 15, starting from East Dean car park at 10am. The walk will finish at Exceat.
ALSO on Saturday, the Christian Aid Bus will show how tax dodging around the world affects the lives of many and explaining what can be done to bring about tax justice. This is at St. Richards Church, Priory Road at 7.30pm. Church Action on Poverty will also talk about how tax dodging affects livelihoods in the UK. Wine and cheese will be served, with an interactive exhibition on the bus.
STEWART Henderson will tell the ‘North Sea Oil’ story to the Devonshire Park Evening Townswomen’s Guild on Wednesday, September 9, in All Saints Church Hall, Grange Road, at 7.15pm.
THE parents of twins might be interested to know there is a ‘Twins Club’ in Eastbourne that can offer to share support and advice on coping with everyday family life. It meets in the Sure Start Children’s Centre three times a month. There is also a quarterly weekend group that can provide support to siblings and grandparents. The Children’s Centre runs a Grandparents Group as well, allowing grandparents to socialise and at the same time offer quality playtime and art activities for the children. THE EAST Sussex Disability Association advises that the Government is proposing reforms to the Welfare system which will involve changes to the eligibility for a Blue Badge. The Department of Transport has produced a consultative document and Blue Badge holders should complete the questionnaire and return to Sally Kendall, Traffic Division, Department for Transport Zone 3/26, Great Minster House, 33, Horseferry Road, SW1P 4DR.
