Disabled man slams Tesco
AN Eastbourne supermarket has been criticised for not providing enough facilities for disabled people.
Chris Knight says there are too few disabled trolleys at the Tesco store in Lottbridge Drove and he often has to wait up to an hour for one to become free.
The 56-year-old says he has raised his concerns with the supermarket but there is still only one disabled trolley for use in the store.
“Tesco seems to be rather lax at providing trolleys for disabled people,” said Mr Knight, who lives in Ash Close. “Sainsbury’s has three trollies available and ASDA the same.
“ I go to Tesco but the one trolley they have always seems to be out and I have to wait for someone to finish using it. Then, when I do my shopping and return it, there is always somebody waiting for it.”
Mr Knight was left disabled by a chemical reaction after undergoing chemotherapy, radiotherapy and other medicines.
He cannot walk far and relies on the disabled trolley when he does his shopping.
“I think it is disgusting that disabled people are being treated like this”
A Tesco spokesperson disagreed there was just one disabled trolley available for customers. “We take our responsibilities towards disabled customers very seriously. As well as having an appropriate amount of specialist trolleys, we also have mobility scooters and wheelchairs for customers to use. We will continue to ensure there are plenty of trolleys to meet our customers’ needs, and our staff are always happy to help with assisted shops.”
