Disability group welcomes Town Hall revamp
MEMBERS of local disability groups were invited to see the Town Hall meeting room which has been redesigned to make it fully accessible.
Members of Eastbourne Access, the MS Society and Disability Involvement Group attended the launch of the revamped room, which will be used for all council meetings open to the public.
Leader of Eastbourne Borough Council, Councillor David Tutt, said, "The council was determined to improve access to its meetings to all sectors of the community and I would like to thank the various groups who represent those with disabilities for there help and advice."
A state of the art audio visual system has been installed which includes a wireless microphone conference system, wireless controlled presentation system consisting of screen, projector, visualiser and PA system, which works with a built-in induction loop for use with hearing aids.
Folding tables, designed to suit various meeting arrangements, have also been bought - as well as a quieter, more energy efficient, heating system.
The full cost of the project has been met from a Government grant which was awarded to the council in recognition of high performance in planning delivery.
The first full council meeting to use the room and equipment will be held on February 25.
