Demand for nannies increases

AN EASTBOURNE nanny agency says it has noticed 'remarkable and surprising interest' in the service it provides as the credit crunch bites and more parents return to work.

Diana Kendall, manager of the Eastbourne Nanny Agency in Broad Oak Close, said this week that many mothers are feeling the need to return to work after the births of their babies far earlier than they had at first anticipated and because of this they are increasingly keen to learn more about the possibilities of employing their own family nanny.

"The phones have hardly stopped ringing," said Diana. "People from all walks of life are making enquiries and as a result we are placing first-class nannies in private homes throughout East Sussex and West Kent.

"Employing a nanny is no longer the prerogative of the rich and famous. In fact, the costs are far lower than you might expect. For example, in the case of a family with two or more children it would probably be cheaper for them to employ a nanny than to send the children to a private nursery.

"Additionally, the nanny would be there to care for the children throughout the year, even fitting her holiday times to match those of the family, so the long school holidays would no longer be a headache for the working parent.

"The main advantage though is that the child or children have exclusive attention of a highly trained person who can guide and teach them through play and education and who can always be relied upon to be there when needed."
