Daylight robber attacks woman

A KNIFE wielding mugger tried to rob a woman in broad daylight in Eastbourne on Monday.

The woman fought off the would-be-thief and ran away after the attempted robbery in Chawbrook Road at 3.10pm.

Police officers say the woman was walking alone along Chawbrook Road when she was approached from behind by a man wearing a grey hooded top and carrying a knife.

He came from the direction of Chawbrook Mews, grabbed the woman and demanded her money and mobile phone and began to search her. She struggled free and ran away and the man disappeared without taking anything.

Police say the woman was badly shaken but was not physically injured.

The suspect is described as white, with shaved blond/ginger hair, in his early 20s, about 5’ 8”, and of skinny build.

Detective Constable Andy Mountford-Laker said, “If anyone saw the incident or has any information that would assist, please contact us via 101 quoting serial number 1049 of 17/09. You can also call independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously via 0800 555 111.”
