Damage repeatedly caused to toilets

Public toilets in Seaford are being repeatedly vandalised in the town.
The facility in the Salts Recreation Ground have been continuously targeted with toilet roll holders and door frames being damaged.
The latest crime was reported on Tuesday November 6 and police said hundreds of pounds worth of damage was being caused each time.
The damage has been reported by Lewes District Council (LDC), who is responsible for the cleaning of the toilets, while Seaford Town Council owns them.
The area is used by sport groups and is popular with dog walkers as well as families.
Seaford Rugby Club’s head quarters is based in the Salts as well as the base for Seaford Lifeguards.
Sue Gwillam, membership secretary of Seaford Lifeguards, said, “I think it could be better lighting in that area of the Salts. You do notice it in the winter when you don’t come out of meetings until 9pm.”
A spokesman for Lewes District Council said, “The Salts Public Conveniences are owned by Seaford Town Council but are operated, cleaned and managed by Lewes District Council.
“Lewes District Council is responsible for all repairs and maintenance.
“There have been a number of incidents of vandalism over the past year resulting in damaged roof tiles, broken toilet roll holders and damage to door frames.
“We do sometimes use external contractors for the larger works such as the roof tiles.
“Where we can, repairs are carried out by LDC to keep the costs as low as possible.”
Acting Seaford Sergeant Chris Wright added, “It would be most inconvenient if you need to use the toilets.
“Should someone see any suspicious activity in the vicinity of the public toilets we would like to hear from them at the time.”
