Crowds mourn murder victim Darren Croxton at funeral
Funeral of murdered Darren Croxton, St Peter and St Pauls Church Hellingly
A LARGE crowd of mourners attended the funeral of murdered Hailsham dad Darren Croxton.
On Friday (February 17) a traditional service, complete with a horse-drawn hearse with black feathers, took place at St Peter and St Paul’s Church in Hellingly, followed by a burial at Ersham Road Cemetery.
Prior to the service Mr Croxton’s family insisted the event be a ‘celebration’ of the life of the 25-year-old father-of-one.
Mr Croxton was killed on January 22 following a fight in Bramble Drive.
Sussex Police believe the fight was pre-planned between two groups in the woods next to the quiet residential street.
A post-mortem revealed Mr Croxton died from knife wounds but a weapon wasn’t found at the scene.
Last week, just days before the funeral, divers from Sussex Police’s Specialist Search Unit dredged Country Park Lake in an attempt to find the weapon.
